Friends and Family,
Adjectives are no longer enough to describe those of you following this blog (faebook notes) of mine.
Today I'm discussing one of the travel/Nottingham related items from my Day Zero list. This category was created more as a catchall than anything else. These are things that are involved with traveling and our hopeful time in Nottingham, but could also fit under school or spirituality. My last post is another that could have gone in this category.
Anyway, the 26th item on my list is to spend a whole week on the island of Iona. This little island community is where St. Columba (an Irish Monk in the 6th century) founded a monastery that sent out missionaries into northern Scotland and brought people to the island for education.
Outside of the island's obvious Celtic connection, the other reason I want to spend time here is for my PhD. Right now, I'm hoping to write my thesis (as they call it) on Columban Spirituality. I'll write more about my theses later. For now, this is one place I want to go in order to better understand the environment that Columba founded and that his hagiographer, Adomnan, two centuries later would lead.
Is there any place you'd like to spend time at for academic or spiritual reasons?
